Both skis and snowboards have a base at the bottom, the part that comes into contact with the snow. This layer of UHMWPE plastic contains microscopic pores.
When skiing or snowboarding, the wax disappears from these pores, which makes it easy for dirt to accumulate and performance to be lost. And that is something you want to avoid!
(included with every service)
At a mechanical cleaning we shave off a tiny layer of your base. This way we open the dirty pores, make your base perfectly smooth, remove small hairline cracks and bring your edges back into alignment. New snowboards and skis often develop a “base high” or “base low”, which affects water and snow drainage.
With this treatment we ensure optimal gliding and maximum control on the slopes!
(included with a VIP service)
After opening your base it is time to remove tar, sand and rubber residue from ski mats. At our VIP service we know that speed counts. That's why we clean your skis or snowboard with an efficient chemical treatment, which completely removes dirt and old wax.
This way your maintenance starts with a perfectly clean base!
(Superior technology, included with a Pro service)
With a Hot Scrape we use a special ski-friendly cleaning wax for a deeper cleaning. This traditional, labor-intensive technique from top sports is standard in our Pro service. We combine cleaning and nourishing by working in paraffin several times and then pulling it out of the base as hot wax. This removes all contamination and also provides a new base wax.
This provides the ultimate glide, ideal for both new and older snowboards or skis!
Your skis have a steel edge that needs to be sharp to effortlessly cut through hard frozen snow in the corners. Are your edges blunt? Then steering becomes difficult and the chance of a crash increases. A correct sharpening angle is crucial for a consistent and controlled ride!
(If damage occurred)
Small stones, pine cones and other debris lurk under the snow, especially at the beginning and end of the season. You're boarding nicely and soot! – a big burr on your edge. This means less grip and a slower board. We can't completely repair a dent in your edge, but we can remove the burr so that your edge gets a smooth, consistent shape again!
(included with every service)
Snow and ice act like sandpaper on your skis, slowly dulling your edges. Sharpening is essential to regain grip on the slopes. Depending on your level and style, the sharpening angles vary from 90° to 87° – the sharper, the more technical the riding and the faster the edges become blunt again.
The standard angle is 89°, but we are happy to adapt this to your wishes!
(Superior technology, included with a Pro service)
The ultimate finish for your steel edges? Polishing! This removes micro fractures and provides a mirror-smooth surface micro finish, allowing you to gain speed effortlessly.
In addition, we subtly round off the contact points, so that you have less chance of snow-snatching when turning. The result? More stability, control and maximum fun on the slopes!
Did you know that skiing and snowboarding are actually a type of water sport? The friction between your base and the snow creates a wafer-thin layer of water on which you glide. This can freeze your skis if it is not drained properly.
That's why we fill the microscopic pores in your base during manual waxing, giving you a mirror-smooth surface. The result? Smooth gliding and maximum speed, regardless of snow conditions!
(included with every service)
After such a five days on the slopes it's time to re-wax your skis or snowboard. Contact with rough terrain wears soft wax out of the pores and fills with dirt. The result? Less speed and that annoying feeling of stickiness on the track.
After the optional base wax we apply a ecological glide wax on. This is adjusted to the ambient temperature of your destination or we use a universal wax for different conditions.
For several years now, waxes with harmful chemicals have been banned because they are bad for our drinking water. That is why we work exclusively with fluorine-free, environmentally friendly wax!
(included with a Pro and VIP service)
Topwax is the ultimate finishing touch to our ski and snowboard care. With our secret formula we ensure a perfect finish, so that every snowflake is effortlessly removed.
This extra layer of wax not only improves your glide ability, but also makes the wax more durable. With normal recreational use, your maintenance will be minimal five days on the slopes. Manual waxing is not only better, it also lasts longer!
Tip! Indoor skiing or indoor snowboarding is not so kind to your equipment. The man-made snow is actually rough ice where 1 hour of skiing is equivalent to 2 to 3 days of outdoor skiing.
(Superior technology, included with a Pro service)
Infrared waxing is the latest technology for optimal maintenance. Thanks to a constant, higher temperature, the wax is absorbed deeper and more even in your base, which ensures a long-lasting effect.
The result? More wax, more glide and more bang for your buck. In our Pro service we perfect the wax layer with an infrared heat treatment. This leaves minimal excess wax, which we expertly scrape and brush away.
This is your snowboard or ski ready for top performance on the slopes!
Before, during and after waxing we carefully brush your snowboard or skis. This not only makes maintenance easier, but also improves performance of the wax. This is how you get maximum glide out of your material! We would like to explain the actions we take with our Pro service:
-step 1-
After a basegrind, where we remove a thin layer of your base to open the pores, we carefully brush away the dirt. We always do this in the sliding direction, so that no dirt remains in the pores.
For a thorough cleaning we use a copper or even steel brush for heavy soiling. These brushes not only clean deeply, but also discharge your base, removing built-up static electricity and allowing your snowboard or skis to glide smoothly again.
-step 2-
After applying the wax layer, we carefully scrape off the excess wax. The right amount of wax must be evenly distributed over the entire length for an optimal glide.
Because a single scraping motion can never cover the entire length, we brush your base with a nylon brushThis ensures a smooth, even finish. Depending on the wax used, we choose a soft or hard nylon brush, which we always use in one direction for the best result.
-Step 3-
For the ultimate finish we use a horsehair brush, a natural product with a unique structure and perfect hardness that you don't find in nylon brushes. This is also known as the race finish. You'd be amazed how much excess wax we remove with this and how smooth and fast your snowboard or skis will be after this last step.
Because this finish requires a lot of precision and time, it is exclusively included in the Pro service from Wax'n Board.
At Wax'n Board we go beyond machine maintenance. From day one we have focused on craftsmanship, innovation and the latest waxing techniques to offer skiers and snowboarders the best service. Thanks to continuous training and in-depth research we take maintenance to the next level.
At Wax'n Board we do more than just grind and wax. With our own production of snowboards and skis we know better than anyone what maintenance means.
