For many people, the winter season starts with the search for a suitable location, so that they can book a ski slope suitable for their level. It is a question of getting down the mountain safely and relaxed with the skis or snowboard; not everyone is equally fearless or has had the luxury of learning to ski as a child.
In 2020-2021, most winter sports enthusiasts look at well-known websites to read a review or experience of fellow adventurers about the ski slope in question. But often people come to the conclusion that what is easy for one person, turns out to be a little less easy for another ????
How do you know in advance whether a ski slope is suitable for your level?
Well, we assume that you have at least been on a ski holiday. If that is not the case, we advise you to look for real beginner slopes with lots of blue or green colours. It might also be worth taking a location where a school gives lessons to learn to ski or snowboard. A matter of having the right guidance during those first descents.
Have you had such a holiday? Good!
Then dive deep into your memories of which ski slopes you have conquered while snowboarding or skiing; then open the interactive piste map of this ski area. And go in search of the route you have taken.
As an example we take the location: Saas-Fee. And more specifically the Panorama ski slope.
Then go to the website of Fatmap and search for this location in the search box.
Use the navigation tools to position the map so that you can quickly and easily find the ski slope. Refer to the ski slope map of the ski area as a guide.

Once you have found it, you can select the relevant ski slope, Fatmap will then immediately make an estimate of this slope.
At the bottom you can also read the maximum slope. In the example we have given, this is 29°. There are also a few other parameters to be found, such as the height, the distance and the height difference.
If you want more detail you can of course request the gradient. That gives you an idea of what you would encounter when skiing or snowboarding.
You can request the piste course by clicking on the icon with a graph. You will then see an extensive route profile. In addition to the course of this ski piste, you will also immediately see the slope with a color indication.
What are you doing here? Well, when you have found a location during your search, you can look up the ski slopes you want to do. This way you can estimate the necessary level as a skier or snowboarder.
If the slope turns out to be the same or lower than what you have done before, then this should not be a problem for you in terms of level. On the other hand, if it is higher then you know your skills will be tested!
We wish you success in your search! Don't forget to skiit's or snowboard to be waxed in advance, so that you can start immediately upon arrival.
