The 2020-2021 winter season will be, just like the previous one, very special. For example, only Andorra and Switzerland are currently operational due to Covid19. The other (European) countries keep their ski areas more or less closed until mid-December.
Or wait, end of December, or no – 7 January.. uh? Confusing isn't it? 🙂
If you would like to ski or snowboard before the big crowds arrive, we advise you to go to Switzerland. Due to the slightly higher prices it is relatively quiet there but this can change quickly if they are really the only open region.
On the ski slopes in Switzerland, the rules are that you must always wear a face mask or buff, and that you must stay at least 1.5 meters away from other people. This also means that you have to wait a little longer at the gondolas, because they must not be full. This is actively monitored.

It is also important to keep an eye on the snow conditions. There has been quite a bit of snow in recent weeks. This attracts many off-piste snowboarders and skiers. Unfortunately, this means that in addition to a magical view, there is also an increased chance of avalanches. So check the weather reports and ski slope updates daily before heading off-piste with your skis or snowboard.
Of course the weather also has an impact on the wax you need to apply to your skis or snowboard. During our visit last week to Celerina – St. Moritz the thermometer gave temperatures of -16°c -10°c. So apply cold temperature wax, from Gallium or Maplus, when waxing your skis and snowboard.
